Our Little Chef

Katie just loves to "cook."  She will get out all the pots and pans and all the play food she can find and spread it all over the house.  Her favorite activities at the moment are mixing and pouring.  Now if we could only get her to fix some real dinner, we would be set.

Night, Night

Abram and Katie love Mommy and Daddy's bed.  As you can see here, they seem to believe that it belongs to them.  They love to run to the bed, throw whatever is on it in the floor, and then crawl under the covers.  They are yet to actually fall asleep while in there because one of them will start laughing or rolling around or even kick off the covers.  When this happens the other one will follow and mass chaos begins; clothes, blankets, and anything else in range goes flying.  But before that, they are really cute just laying there yelling night, night.

A Bucket of Water

A visit to Aunt Donna Bell and Aunt Maria's house brought a great surprise.

A bucket of water.  The kids played and played in it.

Ahhh to be young and take so little to be entertained.

Apple Picking Time.

Saturday we went apple picking with Aunt Dot.  It was a beautiful almost Fall day.  The kids had a blast.  If we had had 10 big garbage bag they would have filled up everyone of them, instead we just had 2 buckets.  The kids ran around the orchard finding the best prize of the day.  After we filled our buckets, we headed back and there was a couple making apple cider.  They were nice enough to let the kids help them.  After going through the whole process, we all got to taste the product.  I think it was the best apple cider anyone had tasted.  We brought home some to share with Daddy and anyone else who wanted it.  I think Abram tasted about 4 cups before we had to stop him for fear of what that much pure cider might do.  Hope you enjoy the pictures, make sure you have your sound on so you can enjoy the music.  We tried a new slideshow maker, let us know which one you like best...the old one or this new one.

Harvest Bounty

This summer Mommy decided she wanted a garden.  For those of you who have been to our house know that there really isn't that much room for one, so Mommy made her own space.  We had tomatoes, blueberries, and raspberries in pots; blackberries in the woods; watermelon, canteloupe, broccoli, and cauliflower in one small bed and strawberries in another one.  Due to lack of rain and some hungry caterpillars not much survived but we did get a few small canteloupe and watermelons and several tomatoes.  Mommy was so excited about these that she had to take a picture.  They were kind of small which made them just right for the kids to carry around.

Before they carried them around they had to check out each one and Abram had to count them.  Katie on the other hand just wanted a spoon to test out the bounty.

Grandma Duncan

Thanks to Grammy, the kids get to go visit Grandma Duncan often.  She is always quick to share a hug and a yummy snack.

The kids are also quick to let her know when they need a snack.
This time it is everyone's favorite, bananas.
Katie looking very serious.

The Second Day

Abram's second day of school went as well as his first.  Ms. Bass his teacher said they were so glad he was in their class, because he was so well behaved.  Mommy and Daddy were a little shocked by that comment but also extremely proud.
Here he is telling Ms. Bass something very interesting.

I have a sneaky feeling that he might spend a lot of time at the cars center.
Katie did much better with the second day because she got to see where her big brother was being left.  She also got to play with a few new toys.
Thanks to Grammy for the pictures.

18 Months

It's hard to believe that 18 months ago, Katie looked like this.  The amazing change she has gone through in the last 18 months is nothing but a miracle.  She is no longer that small pink bundle that we brought home from the hospital.  Katie has become her own person with a personality noone can equal.  She is so full of life that she is hard to keep up with.  Her admiration for her big brother often gets her in trouble but also teaches her lots.  She is full of ideas and strong-willed enough to make them happen.  On top of all these wonderful traits, she has a smile and a set of blue eyes that can melt anyone's heart.

This is our Katie that we know and love, how boring our lives would be without you!

Babies

Katie is going to be such a good mommy, in many many years.  She is already carrying around her dolls, giving them hugs, and trying to feed them.  Sorry the pictures are so fuzzy, the pink blob is a baby doll.

Corn

The corn this summer was great.  We got quite a few fresh ears, straight out of the field.  Abram is into helping and wanted to help shuck it and of course anything Abram does Katie must also do.  By the end of summer they were pretty good at shucking corn, one leaf at a time.

Katie also enjoyed the fruits of their labors.  Abram wasn't such a big fan.

School Days

First of all please forgive us for the pictures.  Abram was in too big of a hurry at every stage for us to get the perfect picture.  We think you can get the idea though.  We have also made them small for space and loading sake.  If you want to see a picture bigger, just click on it.

Abram started school today.  He is going on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the morning.  It is going to give him a great chance to be around other kids his own age, as well as learning some stuff that only another voice (besides Mommy's and Daddy's) can teach.  Here is what we could catch of the day.

First of all Katie was not happy that she didn't get to go as well.  As you can see, she had on her backpack and everything ready to head out the door with her big brother whom she adores.

After Mommy just closed her ears and ran out the door with only one child (the other one was screaming...thanks Grammy for the distraction), Abram got strapped in ready to "go see my friends at my school."   We have had lots of discussions about him going to his school, not Mommy's school or Daddy's school but Abram's school.  He is not asleep, just has his eyes closed because of the camera flash.
We walked into Abram's classroom, he dropped his backpack, turned his back to his teacher...Mrs. Marlowe, said "my nametag," and took off running leaving Mommy in the dust.  Each of the kids has to wear a nametag with their name and a special color to help them get into the right classroom, he was very proud of that nametag.
He headed straight to the sensory table to check out what was inside.  Today it was acorns.  He and his friend played with the acorns.

Daddy got to pick Abram up after his first day and much like the beginning of the day, he saw what he wanted and took off.  He saw his Daddy, yelled "my Daddy" and took off for the car.

After getting picked up Abram and Daddy stopped at the local bakery for a special doughnut snack and then home to see Katie and Grammy.
Perhaps the best part of the day was not caught on camera, when Abram walked in the door at "my house", he was attacked by his adoring fan club (AKA Katie) who tackled him with a giant bear hug.   Which he quickly returned as if he hadn't seen her for days and days.  This lasted just long enough for everyone to look at and go awwweeee, before it turned into a crash to the floor and the sweet spell was broken and they were back to wrestling and fighting over toys.
And after a long day's work, a little Backyardigans and a good backrest bring the day to a happy close,

With some special friends to share excitement with.

Apple Festival

It's Labor Day weekend and that means only one thing in our town.  It's time for the North Carolina Apple Festival.  The festival is a local tradition.  Everyone in town, goes to Main Street and walks up and down visiting, listening to the music, and eating as many apple products as possible.  We were lucky this year to find our friends as Lyda and Sons Farm who shared some of their wonderful products with us.   Abram and Katie both ate several apples.  They also had a fruit sipper full of cider.  The kids had a good time watching all the people walking by and listening to the very bad square dance caller.

Once we got a bag full, it was a battle who could take one bite out of the most apples.  We had to take the bag away pretty quickly.

Notice the red cups, they were full of very tasty apple cider.
